Unique Student Identifier (USI)

Since 1 January 2015, the Australian Government has required every student enrolled in nationally recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET) to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

From 1 January 2021, this requirement also applies to higher education students accessing Commonwealth support, and from 2023, it applies to all students graduating with an Australian higher education award.

What is a USI?

  • Your individual education number for life
  • Provides access to an online record of nationally recognised training
  • Required to receive qualifications, statements of attainment or transcripts

Why is it Required?

  • Access a secure, government-managed digital training record
  • Combine training results from different providers and years
  • Ensure qualifications are recognised across Australia
  • Comply with Standards for RTOs 2025 and reporting obligations

Providing Your USI to ACTB

  1. Take a screenshot of the page showing your USI number, OR
  2. Forward a copy of the USI confirmation email

📌 If you already have a USI from previous study in Australia, you must provide it at enrolment.

Privacy & Security

Your USI information is protected under the Student Identifiers Act 2014 and the Privacy Act 1988.

  • Used only for official training and reporting purposes
  • Not shared without consent unless required by law
